This week is Dementia Awareness Week, the Alzheimer’s Society’s wants to get people talking about dementia and help raise funds http://www.alzheimers.org.uk/talkdementia . They certainly are at North Tyneside General Hospital (NTGH) and Wansbeck General Hospital (WGH).
NTGH Ward 9 staff (above) with the help of one of our Mealtime volunteers Mel (below) put on a fabulous afternoon tea event on Tuesday in their new dementia friendly day room. The cakes were amazing and there is defiantly some budding cooking talent on the ward. Hospital staff, carers, volunteers and ex-patients, helped raise over £650 for the Alzheimer’s Society’s.
NTGH Ward 3 had a very successful ‘Drop in and Talk’ afternoon aimed at carers of patients with dementia, Ward Manager Bev Banks is keen for this to continue on a monthly basis. Our Wellbeing Volunteer Malcolm is helping and currently looking into reminiscence posters for the day room, I did wonder when he asked me for a picture of Marylyn Monroe!
Good luck to WGH with their tea party this afternoon, I will see you there.
