February Milestones

Observation Volunteers

Four Observation Volunteers have been recruited, all 50+ with first-hand experience of hospitals.   They will observe wards in North Tyneside General, Wansbeck General and Hexham General Hospitals.  Their findings will be fed back to ward staff in real time. Good and bad examples of patient dignity, respect, care, comfort, inclusion and identity will be discussed. Follow-up observational visits will hopefully reveal improvements.

Before the volunteers embark on this unique role they will received Patient Centred Training alongside ward staff on the 21st March. Check out the You Tube clip below of Henry, used in the training.

Discharge Packs

Hospital to Home Discharge Packs are now available to older patients in North Tyneside General Hospital’s discharge lounge, while they wait in comfort for medication and transport home. North Tyneside Carers advised on the key Age UK information that people need at this stressful transition. We will be keeping a close eye on pack uptake and peoples’ views. As our small scale leaflet survey from hospital racks in January reveal disappointing results!
